Accessibility Settings
OpenScouter is built to work for everyone. Whether you prefer a quieter visual experience, larger text, or reduced movement on screen, these settings are here to support you during your test.
You can find all accessibility options in your Dashboard under Settings > Accessibility.
Calm Mode
Calm Mode creates a simpler, more focused interface by removing visual noise from the platform.
When Calm Mode is enabled:
- Decorative elements and background graphics are hidden
- All animations and transitions are disabled
- Colors shift to softer, lower-contrast tones
- Shadows are replaced with subtle borders to define layout boundaries
This mode is especially helpful if you find busy interfaces distracting or overwhelming during a test. It works across all parts of the platform, including the study lobby, task screens, and feedback forms.
To turn it on, go to Settings > Accessibility and toggle Calm Mode on.
Font Size
You can choose a text size that feels comfortable for reading instructions, questions, and task content.
| Option | Size |
|---|---|
| Small | 16px |
| Default | 18px |
| Large | 20px |
| Extra Large | 24px |
The default size is 18px, which works well for most screen sizes. If you find yourself leaning in or squinting, try Large or Extra Large.
To change your font size, go to Settings > Accessibility and select your preferred size under Text Size.
Reduced Motion
If you have motion sensitivity or prefer less movement on screen, OpenScouter automatically respects your operating system’s reduced motion setting.
When your system has prefers-reduced-motion enabled:
- Page transitions use simple fades instead of sliding animations
- Loading indicators use opacity changes instead of spinning icons
- No content bounces, pulses, or scrolls automatically
You do not need to change anything inside OpenScouter. The platform reads your system preference and applies it right away. To enable reduced motion on your device, check your operating system’s accessibility or display settings.
High Contrast
OpenScouter also respects your system’s high contrast preference automatically.
When your system has prefers-contrast: more enabled:
- Text and background contrast is increased across all screens
- Border and focus indicator colors are strengthened
- Interactive elements like buttons and links become more visually distinct
As with reduced motion, this setting is applied without any action needed inside the platform. Enable high contrast through your operating system’s accessibility settings and OpenScouter will adjust to match.
A Note on These Settings
Your accessibility preferences are saved to your account and carry over between tests. You will not need to re-apply them each time you start a new study.
If something does not look right or a setting does not seem to be working, reach out through the Help menu and the support team will be glad to assist.
